Our novel for March is Oil! by Upton Sinclair. This choice was influenced by the fact that I have a trip planned to Doheny Mansion, or Greystone Mansion, later this month. Edward Doheny was one of the most influential figures in the California oil boom and while the novel is not directly about him, he is most definitely the inspiration behind the central character. Oil! also inspired the Academy award winning film There Will Be Blood, and the last scene was filmed in the mansion, so I have the opportunity to have another trifecta of posts. And this trifecta will be amazing and educational at the same time...because learning is fun!
Just like the two previous Book Club selections, this also hails from the LA Weekly Tournament to find the best LA Novel ever written. I have also updated the Book Club page with this selection.
I hope to see many of you at the March meeting.
XOXO, Lovelies!
