Vintage Bar Guides

Brought to you by Southern Comfort

Hello there Lovelies!

When I promised you that I was going to focus on the whole vintage project aspect of The Vintage Project last weekend, I did not think that I would have some truly fabulous material literally fall into my lap that very day.

Quite serendipitous!

I visited the family after my morning of coffee and promises and Oma mentioned that she had gone through one of the drawers of her wet-bar and found some old bar guides.  Naturally, I was excited by this news, and while these guides are from the 70's and not the exact kind of vintage that I had in mind, they are still fantastic - mainly for the photos!  Few things are as entertaining as 70's fashion.  Or 70's hair.

I would assume that more companies put out these little pamphlets during this time, but it seems that Oma was a Southern Comfort fan in the 70's and has not been able to part with them.  So I helped her out and took them off her hands almost forty years later.  I'm just that selfless.

Oh, the magic!!

Evidently, these publications were not only to promote the alcoholic beverage du jour, but also to peddle their wares.  In this case, the coveted Happy Hour Party kit!!  Large flag to fly outside the house?!?!?  I will take two sets please!

They were also chalked full of tips and tricks!
But really, I think the photos are the star of this show!

 Themed happy hour??  I'm in!!

And 5 Mod Posters??  FOR $1.00?!?!?  I wonder what would happen if I sent my dollar to this P.O. Box...
More bargains on the back page!

While a much smaller pamphlet, the second one the Oma found (also Southern Comfort) is not to be discounted.  There is some stellar hair in this one as well!

I'd like you all to meet my boyfriend...doesn't that hair and the plaid sport coat just make you swoon??
It also showcases the Wallbanger made with Southern Comfort. Because really, who DOESN'T want to order a Wallbanger?

In case you were wondering what the newest hit drinks were, you've come to the right place!

While much more serious, we also learned how to make the most of our Electrolux.

And all about The Pleasure of Blending.

Though, to be honest, I don't know how much pleasure I would get from some of these recipes...

Last, but certainly not least, there was the book of Knudsen recipes.  So fantastic!

Were you aware that you could pick these products up at your local Food Store??!?!  I know!  Amazing!

Ah, the treasures that are hidden at Oma's house....

If you're thinking of hosting a cocktail party over the long weekend, take a page from the 1976 Southern Comfort playbook and don a festive plaid outfit, coif your hair, and your guests will definitely thank you!

XOXO!

I Have Strayed...

Good Morning Kittens!

Over the course of the last few months, I have realized that while I am very proud of myself for staying strong with my little corner of the blogosphere, I have lost sight of what I originally wanted to do with it.  I got caught up in storytelling, which is not a bad thing.  But it became a bad thing when I lost focus.  You know, the whole vintage project aspect of The Vintage Project?

I have strayed.

I am ashamed.

Mea Culpa.

So, this morning I am doing some research for some actual on-topic posts!!!

You might remember, some time ago (GASP - in April!) I purchased what I considered reference material for this blog, Let's Bring Back.  While I have yet to actually sit and peruse it over a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning, I recently purchased another version - Let's Bring Back: The Lost Language Edition.  I'm looking forward to flipping through this to see if this will provide some insight for a post I'm hoping to get out soon.  Not to make any excuses, but that's been the crux of the problem...the on-topic posts can be very time consuming since I'm not one to just throw words down onto a page and hit 'publish'.  I'm a researcher.  And a reworker.  And yes, brevity is NOT my friend.  So the whole process becomes a lengthy one, and as it is, I'm usually pressed for time.

But I made a commitment to myself and to this blog that I was going to glam things up a bit.  And while I know I'm super fab to begin with, I need to hold myself to that commitment.  So, get ready Kittens, there will be more actual Vintage Project-related posts coming your way soon!

Here's hoping you've got some super glam plans for the weekend!
XOXO

The Girls Go To Mexico Part 4 - Hammocks and Sunsets

¡Holla Mis Amigas!

As you've probably been able to gather from parts 1, 2, and 3 of my Girls Go To Mexico series, we had a fabulous time!  I ended up coming home with nearly 800 photos and a good number of them were scenic sunset shots.  I decided it would be poetic to comprise a post of sunset shots to commemorate the sun setting on our trip.  Obvious?  Perhaps.  Fabulous?  Most definitely.

Most of these photos were taken on the beach where the resort has two hammocks, so before we get to the sunsets, I thought I would share some shots of the girls having hammock time.  It was extra exciting for me since it was my first time in the hammocks.  Yes, it was my fourth trip, but up until this year, I would come home and feel like I failed myself a bit by not spending a little time lounging in the hammocks.  Not this year.

Has anyone ever looked more fab in a hammock than Janice?  I doubt it.

Since Janice was in the other hammock, I joined Tina in hers.  Those are my tootsies!

Once Janice vacated the other hammock, it looked so lonely.

So, I went to keep it company.

I think Janice regretting abandoning her hammock, so she came back and jumped in with Tina.  Poor Tina, always having to share...
Sharing can be fun!

But a hammock to yourself is heaven!
The sun was starting to set and a tropical storm started moving in.  So perfect!

And now...the fabulous tropical sunsets!

Day 5

While the sun didn't set on our last day, it ended this way.

After soaking in the resort for the last few precious minutes, Luis saw us off.
And there you go lovelies, a photographic account of five days in paradise.

¡Buenas Noches, Senoritas!
